Marcello: A Sweet Life
Marcello: Una Vita Dolce
Directors: Mario Canale and Annarosa Morri
2006 - 98 mins - S/T

MARCELLO: A SWEET LIFE is an intimate look at the career of charismatic actor Marcello Mastroianni; the premier Italian actor of the post-war era and among the most popular international stars in movie history. A speculative, almost introverted screen presence, he was the perfect foil for the arid, often puzzling films of directors like Michelangelo Antonioni and Federico Fellini, with whom he achieved some of his greatest success.

Ten years after his death, the name "Mastroianni" still evokes memories of an era: a world composed of talent, good looks, charm, gentleness and seduction. Consisting of interviews with Mastroianni himself, excerpts from films, behind the scenes footage and comments from actors, directors and many people who were close to him, MARCELLO: A SWEET LIFE reveals what was hidden behind that knowing gaze and that charming smile.

Highlights include daughters Barbara and Chiara Mastroianni discussing Marcello as father, co-stars Claudia Cardinale and Anouk Aimee (who is particularly glowing), and directors such as Ettore Scola and Mario Monicelli who recall his consummate professionalism and legendary quirks as well as fascinating archival interviews with Fellini, Visconti and Zurlini, to name a few.
